It is going to require effort on your part. And you’re not going to be able to free-feed – keep the bowls full.

You’ll have to set amounts for each cat to eat and give them only that much. Anything left behind should be removed so Fatty can’t get to it.

Unless you plan to keep them separated all day long, there’s just no other way to do this.

This is the downside to having more than one cat!

I have this problem too. I have to put the food out for an hour three times a day. This is the only way I’ve been able to limit my fat cats intake. If I feed them on a schedule they beg for food randomly throughout the day, especially the fat one, and then when he actually gets his food he eats it very fast and then tries to move on to the other bowls. I keep him from getting any of the rest but then from eating so fast he ends up puking up his food anyways. The other kitties do this too b/c they don’t want him eating their food. So I fill the bowls with about a cup each and put the dishes down for about an hour or two and he has learned that he has time to eat and has slowed down along with the others.

NO cat should have food left out all day long. Just like humans, cats can eat out of boredom. Stop leaving the food out and switch to feeding all of them twice a day. And if you’re feeding your cats a low quality dry food – which are made mostly of corn – then switch to a food with MEAT as the main ingredient or, better yet, to canned food.

LOL people – I must be tired because I understood what was being asked. But now that I reread it it did look like he was asking about “eating of a fat cat” ha ha

We’ve done just feeding at set times – each cat gets a set amount, obviously the “tubby” one gets less.

Hope that helps … find a way to exercise the over-weight cat. They need extra exercise just as people do.

If you do free feeding where there is food out all of the time – If the fat cat is too fat to climb well, put all of the other cats regular food up high – maybe on top of the fridge, something like that. And just leave the fat-cat diet food on the ground where he can reach it.

If you do limited feeding where you feed them, they eat it all right away – just seperate them during meal time.

well if ther is another cat it will be hard put a cup in the boll then give it to it and also mackes sure that the cat eats all the food or leave the boll there for a mint if it has not eaten all the food still take the food away if it is still hungrey dont give it the food back to it because the cat will learn the hard way and dont think that it is cull it is not

Regular meals while you watch is the only way.

The only way I have been able to do it is to stop free feeding and go to set meal times. I then feed the overweight cat light food on it’s own seperated from the others. I have used a big puppy pen for this before. The big cat get’s it’s food first in the big pen then the others are fed. She then eats and waits in the pen while the others finish eating and the food is taken up.
It is super hard to manage weight issues in a multi cat household so I wish you the best of luck. Getting the fat kitties weight down is so much better for their health but hard!!

can the fat cat jump up on as high a surface as the others? if not place food up higher so fat cat can’t get to it. then take her into another room, like bath room, shut her in with her food so other cats can’t get to her. this way you can control how often and how much fat cat eats. that’s what i a have to do with mine.
