My cat weighs 8 pounds and you can weigh your cat first you have to weigh your self so pretend you are 92 pounds without your cat and then you take your cat with you and you are 100 pounds together that means that your cat is 8 pounds :]]

my cat Mittens (he’s a boy… long story) is really fat too. he eats a lot during the winter and then loses all the fat in the summer.

    cat training secrets

Okay, first get your vet for a fecal exam as it sounds like your cat has roundworms and/or tapeworms.

She is not eating because she is bored, but because she has an intestinal problem. Roundworms make a belly fat, yet, the cat is still hungry because the worms are eating all the food and she is literally starving. She is depressed because she is not feeling well.

You should NOT be punishing your cat for something she cannot help and needs you to take care of for her.

Get her to a vet first thing tomorrow or you will be facing more vet bills and a very, very, very sick cat.

Good luck, and with the right pills, your cat will be fine, and you’ll see it is starting to lose its fat belly.

    cat training outside

Depending on the breed of cat average weight should be 8-10 pounds. There are special diets available at the pet store for obese cats. My concern is has your cat had all of her shots??? If so she probably just needs more outside play time. If your cat has not had all of her shots you need to take her to the vet for blood work. There is a disease out there called FIP and it causes extreme bloating from fluid in the abdomen. Also, you really should not tie up a cat because they are feral(wild) animals by nature and need to be able to use there instinctive traits such as climbing and playing and hunting.. There is also the risk of your cat getting tangled up in whatever you tie her up with and strangling herself accidentally. Please ,dont tie her up any more—train her by showing her what she can play with and what she can’t, a cat knows you are displeased with behavior without hitting or tying it up. Be patient and good luck!!

Does kitty have toys? That might help with exercise. Kitty might need to switch her diet. I did that and my cat hated the new food. Jeez, the weight came off (too much or too fast). My kitty is at 9 lbs+ now. But kitty might also have a blockage or even (yikes) tumor. My first kitty shot up to 11 lbs from 8 lbs. and as it turn out, that was the added weight. Get advice from a pro who has looked at kitty and maybe has done tests or x-rays. Good luck.

First and foremost, have her checked by a vet. If the problem is overeating/obesity:

You’re going to want to put your cat on a high quality wet/canned food. Wet food has far less carbohydrates in it than dry so it makes weight loss easier, plus it’s healthier for cats anyway.

The reason is, in the wild, cats normally get most of their water content directly from their prey items and drink very little. Domestic cats are no different, and because of the fact that they are designed to take in water with their meal, they have a very low thirst drive. Cats often just don’t drink enough. This leads to urinary tract infections and crystals. The bit about dry food being better for teeth is a myth and has not been proven in the least (cats barely even chew their dry food and, really, does a pretzel clean /your/ teeth? Cats should have their teeth brushed with cat toothbrushes and cat toothpaste at least a few times a week as well as see the vet for dental cleanings when necessary /regardless/ of what they are being fed). Canned/wet food is better because it more closely mimics the cat’s natural diet. More on why canned food is best: (Excellent cat nutrition information by a vet) (Canned Cat Food: Can Your Cat Afford to Live Without it?) (Why Cats Need Canned Food) (The Dry Food Crisis) (Max’s House: Feline Nutrition)

Another option to get cats to drink more would be a cat fountain. Cats tend to like to drink from running water and cat fountains see to that need, encouraging cats to take in more water.

Make sure the food is a high quality one. A high quality cat food also won’t have as many carbohydrates and grains in it.

Examples of low quality foods to avoid: Anything you can find in a grocery store will be low end, Purina, Iams, Eukanuba, Science Diet, Royal Canin, Whiskas, Fancy Feast, Friskies, Meow Mix.

Examples of high quality foods to look for: Innova, Wellness, Solid Gold, Felidae, Fromm Four Star, Merrick, GO Natural, Nature’s Variety Prairie, Nature’s Logic, Artemis Fresh Mix, Timber Wolf Organics.

You could even go entirely grain free. Diets high in grain/carbohydrates have been attributed to problems with diabetes in cats. Many of the high quality foods now put out grainless formulas. Some good grainless diets include: Innova EVO, Wellness CORE, Blue Wilderness, Nature’s Variety Instinct, Orijen, Horizon Legacy, Merrick Before Grain, Fromm Surf & Turf, Now!, Sold Gold Indigo Moon, Ziwipeak, and Taste of the Wild.

If you’re freefeeding… STOP. This is the fast lane to feline obesity. Read the feeding guidelines on your cat’s food and feed accordingly. Adult cats are typically fed two meals a day.

Lastly, you want to keep your cat active. Get your cat engaged in games and playtime!
