Feed a food designed for overweight or inactive cats. Follow the recommended feeding amount on the bag and do not give treats. Also engage your cat in a physical activity, like chasing a laser pointer.

Tough love! Don’t leave food down all day for him to munch on, give the recommended amount that’s on the tin or pack and the hardest of all, ignore him when he’s wrapping himself around your legs whilst begging for food. Good luck!

Get food that says its for cats that weigh too much. Also let your cat outside (they know the way home) and if you don’t want to do that atleast do something for him. Get a cat leash and harness (im against this but if you don’t let him outside alone you need to do this) and make him walk around and sniff.. do it every day and make sure you don’t let the cat eat as much as he wants… put him on a healthy diet, no meow mix or anything, feed him all natural grain free food for his diet.

First of all,do you feed him wet / dry food? Wet food can be quite rich, so slowly put him on dry food by mixing in the kibbles with his wet food, and increasing the ratio each day. If your cat is on dry kibbles, DON’T just leave them there for him to eat at any point. Pick two times a day when you can feed him, preferably morning and evening, and stick to those times only. About a handful of kibbles at a time is enough. Don’t feed your cat any human foods, treats etc. Also go to a pet shop and see if they have any kibbles for weight loss – they are more pricey though. Good luck!

Feed him natural food, such as low calorie food from your vet. There are some companies that sell natural meat and fruit and vegetable patties. The company’s name is Urban Carnivore. We used this for our dog, perhaps it will work for a cat.

best cat training
The first thing to say is that you should consult your local veterinarian – they will be able to give you expert advice specifically tailored towards your cat. In general, the rule is to slowly reduce your cat’s calorific intake, without any seismic changes to your cat’s diet (this could otherwise cause gastrointestinal upset). Ideally, feed you cat a dry food specifically tailored to its breed, size and life stage.
It is fine to treat your cat every now and then, however, treats should never account for more than 10% of your cat’s diet. Also remember, treats are not essential for your cat’s survival, so if your cat is overweight then it is probably a good idea to gradually cut out treats completely.
Many people feed their cat’s dental chews to improve the condition of their teeth. However, these are high in fat and hard kibble will do the job just as well. Hope this helps.

You get a mirror, and sit down and have a discussion with him. Seriously, it is good you recognize he needs to lose weight.
Weight loss is best done in consultation with your vet, and must be done slowly. You suddenly do not take away large amounts of food, since too rapid of a weight loss can have serious health consequences. I have given you a link to an article that will give you an overview of the process.
