How to get my fat cat to loose weight?
Posted by: admin : Category: Cats
April M asked:
Well.. I have a 1 year old-4 and a half months cat and he’s quite obese but… I really need him to loose that weight. What should I do? Well.. first of all.. I wanted to get 2 cats at the shelter and they looked the same so I wanted to get a bigger cat and a small cat to tell them apart. Shadow(The big cat) is really lazy now and I’m trying to play with him to loose weight but he doesn’t seem to want to fight that much.. Someone please help me!!
Should I put a cat harness on it?
i have 2 cats. Shadow is the fat cat and We had only 1 litter box at the time
well..he started peeing on the couches
and I bought a new litter box MUCH bigger and he does everything in there..
My brother noted to me.. he pooped on the floor today and it was like.. diarrhea and I had to clean that up…All he is doing is……..laying down all day not moving. I even try to call him to go eat food.

how to train a cat
If he’s obese then you really should bring him in to the vet to have him examined and develop a specialized weight loss plan. It’s likely the vet will tell you to put him on a high-quality diet with scheduled meal times. Once he’s shed a little weight it won’t be so uncomfortable for him to move around so he’ll probably be more receptive to playing, and he can burn some calories that way too.
**Added** Dragging your fat cat around on a harness is probably not an effective weight loss technique.

house cat training
Did I read it right? You have a smaller cat, too? I’m surprised that they don’t play together.
Monitor how much your cat is eating, and don’t feed him between meals. NEVER give him “people” food…..table scraps, etc.
Look on the bag of food, and see how much he should be eating per day. Divide that up into 4 “meals”…Feed him in the morning, around 2-3 pm, around 7 pm, and his last “meal” just before bedtime….10 ish?
This way, he’s getting SOME food during the day, and some before bed, so his metabolism will continue to process his food ( energy ) consistently.
After he’s lost a little of his fat, he may be more willing to PLAY……and get some exercise.
Take a ball ( wadded up paper, knotted sock, etc ) and toss it across the floor. If you can get him interested in it, before you toss it, he should chase after it and play. But, as long as he’s too heavy, he’s not going to want to run………
Don’t put a harness on him and take him outside, or he won’t want to stay inside anymore. If he’s already going outside, he may be eating some other animal’s food, and that’s why he’s so fat. Maybe, he’s eating your smaller cat’s food………Feed them in separate rooms, so that Shadow doesn’t eat more than he should.
Hope this helps……..Good luck.
** If he has diarrhea, you need to take him to the vet tomorrow. He may have worms, which could be causing his weight gain, too. Good luck.

cat training secrets
Give him less food. Make a schedule when you give him food. For right now give hima full dish of food, and if he eats that only a little bit more. Another thing you could do is find a healthier cat food. Make things interestring and play more fun by hiding cat treats around the house, and taking an old sock and filling it with cat nip to make him more wild and playful. NOTE WITH CATNIP:D–lol: Some cat’s go freakininsanne and crazy like my 2 cat’s callie and sadie. they will ran back and forth all through the house and both sound like a herd of horses! And a cat harness, or like a leash you could take him for walks. Start with shorter walks and gradually make them longer. Be aware and keep him out of yards, away from other stray cat’s and dogs and don’t let him eat anything that you have no idea what it is.
Bring some water with you to give him. Obese cat’s get tired easier and as well as humans keep your cat hydrated with water whenever he wants it.

Change his food to Hills Diet food – lots of cheap cat foods are bulked out with fats, carbs and salts and so are high in calories and very addictive.
Hills is low in fat and high in protein, so you can feed your cat less and it will be fuller quicker and for longer.
Then play with it…Scrunch up a ball of paper and throw it like a ball. Cats love it.
