I give him 3/4 a cup in the morning and 3/4 in the evening. Everytime I go into the kitchen he runs and leaps on the counter and just whines and crys for food. it just breaks my heart to know hes that hungry. On the other hand…Im afraid hes not healthy cause hes to big and I dont want it to shorten his life. What do I do?

You could try feeding him smaller amounts of food several times a day. It will help speed up his metabolism.
Just ignore his begging, he will eventually stop when he realizes you aren’t going to give in.

Keep the food level down. He’ll eventually learn to do with less and as his stomach gets smaller, he’ll actually become less hungry. Try walking him more also, that will speed up metabolism so that when he does eat, it will pull more nutrients from the food and he’ll feel less hungry also.

If you are feeding him the required amount of food per day, then perhaps he really is ill or just plain greedy.
Still, a visit to the veterinarian can’t hurt – just in case.

Maybe you could try giving him smaller portions more frequently. Like 4 times a day, instead of twice. Good luck!

starve that fat piece of shizzle.

give him in between snacks like cooked carrots and other vegetables. If he is truly starving, he will eat it and it’s good for him. If he doesn’t, then you know he is just trying to manipulate and guild you into feeding him more. Keep up the good work, your extending his life.
The link will give you some great ideas.

First make sure you are feeding him a high quality food. Maybe a high quality diet cat food. Talk to a vet or visit a reputable seller of pet foods. You may have already done this.
Then here are some other things to try:
1. Ignore him when he whines. Go do something else. (Hard- I know.)
2. Brainstorm some low cal treats and see if he likes any of them. My mom’s cat is fat- and when I open up a can of tuna for myself I give him some of the water- make sure packed in water- not oil.
3.Break up the feeding times- maybe 3 or 4 times a day instead of 2 but don’t lose track of how much you feed him.
4. One of these times hide his food and make him find it.
5. If he is an indoor cat buy a little tub of fresh wheatgrass and leave it by his water bowl.
When your cat whines he may not even really be hungry- just bored and he figures he’s got you trained. Maybe try to get him more interested in toys. Try the laser mouse.
Be strong and firm- You are doing the right thing. Good luck.

Just increase fibre diet than carbohydrate and protein. (Carrots, greens, etc.). Moreover split the food into numerous time. Don;t forget to check your pet with your vet for thyroid disorder.

he wants you to give in, dont. feed him a cup and a half and when its gone its gone he needs to realize that he cant eat as much as he wants. as for the fat thing, get him on a lower fat food, it will work also just get him somewhere where he will excrcise

Cats can be drama queens. He knows how to push your buttons! Whenever you put any pet on a diet, they tend to play the “I’m starving to death!” game. He just needs some tough love. With a fat cat, you should always go very gradually when reducing their amount of food – don’t ever cut portions drastically – that can lead to fatty liver disease in some cats.

You should really go to: and read the article there on obesity in cats. There are excellent suggestions as to feeding an overweight cat.
All inexpensive grocery store foods and the very expensive Science Diet use by-product meat and corn. The amount of corn is usually 2/3 of what your cat is eating. Corn is used to fatten slaughter animals – that is not your intention in feeding your cat.
Get Eagle Pack, Felidae, Solid Gold, Natural Balance, CA Natural. These foods use human-grade meat sources and the first two ingredients are high quality meat protein and the third a filler such as brown rice, oats, millet, pea etc. Canned food is also less fattening than dry and more satisfying to the cat. NB has about five varieties in their canned food. My cats like most of them really well.
It is not his fault that your cat is overweight and he shouldn’t have to feel hungry all the time by your cutting down on the quantity he gets. Humans cannot lose weight on any diet that is that high in carbohyrate (such as the corn)
When you eliminate the corn from your cat’s diet he will stop GAINING right away so that is an immediate plus. The higher quality food will be more satisfying for him and it’s effects will take a little longer to kick in. The weight loss will be gradual (as it should be), you don’t have to cut back on quantity, and your cat will be happier to be well nourished.

I’ll bet he’s eating dry food!
Cats are obligate carnivores who can only properly digest animal proteins. All they can do with plant protein is turn it into fat, then live off their fat as if they were starving. Grain is particularly worthless to them.
Dry food is made from plant proteins, mainly grain.
It is not uncommon for cats that eat all or mostly dry food to suffer from both obesity and malnutrition at the same time.
Here, read this and you’ll know more about feline nutrition and properly feeding your kitty than most vets:
I’ll bet that switching kitty to a diet of good quality wet food will satisy his hunger and get his weight down to a healthy level. You will also reduce the chances of him developing kidney failure, diabetes and urinary tract blockages, all common among cats who eat a lot of dry food.

I had a fat cat too. I just cut her food back to about what you are giving your cat. It took about six months but she slimmed down and became more active. She did act like she was starving but I knew that she was not because she was being fed twice a day. Don’t you feel like you’re starving sometimes when you are dieting? I would stick to it if you want you cat to live a longer healthier life.

have you ever thought that he could be eating elsewhere! perhaps you can get him a collar from here which says do not feed me…
on other other hand cats are just like kids they will try for 2nds
if he has had his portion thats it, perhaps distract him with toys and entertain him to take his mind off food.
