that is soooo dangerous. I was told that if you starve a cat, they should, by instinct, catch their own food.

I dont know what to suggest sorry but the poor baby needs to be helped cuz it NOT good. Maybe an op?

see if hell get on a leash some cats actually go for walks. and instead of feeding him say 1 can of food twice a day. how about 1/2 a can a food twice a day. (if that is what u are doing that is)

Are you feeding him canned food like Friskies? I used to feed my cats that and they were so fat! My vet said Friskies is like McDonalds for cats, and can make them fat. He said feed them Science Diet cans twice and day and leaave them dry food out so they can snack. Then they won’t get into your stuff. My cats eat as much as ever, but they aren’t quite as fat.

We had a kitty just like him. We named him Fatcat.

We tried to get him a cat food that was good for him but he still ate everything in sight.

After he was a year or so old he got a little more picky, ate a little less and shed a few pounds.

Is there any problem on a cat too fat?

    train your cat to sit

there could be some thing wrong with his hypothalamus which tell amimal when were hungry and when were not. there have been studies that have shown if it is damaged animals can stop eating and starve themselves – it could be the other way round with your cat.(but that is not the greatest of evidence)

it could just be greedy or its the wrong type of food for it.

there probably is some kind of group that will give you information about how to stop itgetting too big.

    look on the internet

My tom cat Shoeless Joe ate between 10 and 12 pouches of meat a day and biscuits ad lib growing up plus anything else he could scarff up for the first 18 months of his life .He grew into a very big but not fat cat.If a cat gets fat it’s often not enough exercise so play with him more.My Joe had a “brother” and 3 “sisters” to chase him round and keep him fit and healthy.Young cats eat a lot ‘cos they’re growing and often grow out of it.Joe still eats a lot but he’s very lively and it’s not as much as when he was growing.

Check out some of the premium brands of cat food for a weight maintenance (low cal) formula. Feed the recommended amounts and stop leaving treats where the cat can get them. Can the cat open a drawer? Put them in there. Get some interactive toys things you can have your cat swatting at and trying to catch. There is a good part of our pets wanting to over eat, they can’t if we control their food. some of the best brands of cat food include California Natural, Solid Gold, Innova

vary his diet between tinned and dry cat food and try giving him one full bowl(more than usual) but make it so that has to last him the whole day , he’ll get used to saving food for later times.

I have a cat who’s also about a year old and she’s bigger than my other two. Ask your vet if they carry Prescription Diet R/D. R/D actually stands for Reduced Diet. Look on the bag for feeding instructions or your vet should have a booklet with the prescription diets in it and how to feed a cat. You’re supposed to feed him what you think his ideal weight is, but if he’s pretty far from his ideal weight range then try the feeding for a cat 5lb less than what he weighs now and don’t feed him any human food. As far as exercise, I do not recommend you take him outside whatsoever. Cats can very easily get out of collars and even harnesses. Play with him inside and get him to move around a bit whether it’s with a ball or laser pointer or whatever else he’ll play with. Once your cat is down to his ideal weight you can either stick with the prescription diet food but go to W/D, weight diet, which is a maintenance food or put him on a weight maintenance food like Iams or Purina, and continue to feed the amount suggested for his weight. If he does not start losing weight, it’s possible he could be hypothyroid. We usually only see it in older cats but it’s possible a young cat like him could have it. Or he could just have that “last meal” mentality where he thinks he needs to eat now before someone else gets to it. Are you still feeding kitten food? Is he neutered? If you answered yes to both of these questions that could be another reason why he’s getting overweight. When animals are fixed their metabolism slows down so you really have to watch what they eat. And the kitten food will make him get even bigger because of all the extra nutrients and fat in it to promote growth. He’s ready now for adult food.

    Well how fat is he?
Can he fit through a doorway?

If he can’t even fit through a doorway, I’d say it’s just best to kill the poor thing.

I would hire a forklift and take him to the vet; they can recommend special foods for obese cats, and a feeding regime.Same for cats as for folks; fat kills.

Cats that have a eating disorder can have serious physical health issues that you are unaware of. Have you taken your cat to the vet? He or she may put your cat on a diet. Just like people, animals can have problems with their weight and it may be because of the kinds of food you are giving it. Before you read any more answers to this question, do your pet a favor and take him to the vet. The vet will be able to determine if there is anything wrong with him. It may be serious. Good luck!
