My fat cat just sits around all day and does nothing. What should I do?

My cat is exceptionally indolent. It just sits around and does nothing. Problem is, he’s a very fat cat. No kidding, this cat weighs more than 25 pounds! He is also very fluffy, so he looks like a discarded pom-pom with a peckish face. He can’t be bothered to do anything. What should I do to goose some life into my torpid cat?

What you need to do is to stop feeding kitty crack aka dry food and feed canned without gravy. You will notie a differene in a few months not just in weight but in attitude.
Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms
The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process them. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in
Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don’t use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn’t have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck?
Please read about cat nutrition.

If you have stairs in your house, try throwing a ball or mouse up and down the stairs, or shine a laser pen around to make him chase it. Good excersise for them since they will be running around the house and up and down the stairs. It works for my cat!

I agree with Ken. Your cat needs to have a quality meat protein diet and NO dry food.
The meat diet is digested faster and leaves your cat with more energy for other things. When cats free-feed on dry food all their energies go into food digestion.

Try jumping in front of him, and scaring him, it gets his heart beating faster, and its supposed to be good for cats. Also, try picking him up and placing him farther away from his food, water, litter box, etc. Then he’ll have a workout to reach it.

I also own a fat cat, but she’s not as big as your cat. Anyway, my vet recommended a Science Diet Light Adult Cat Food. It is a dry food, but it is lower in calories. I also read the side of the bag, and now I measure out 1 1/2 cups a day, broken into 3 servings. If I put a big bowl out and let her serve herself, she’ll graze all day and eat much more. You don’t want to starve the kitty, but you also don’t want the kitty to gorge itself and end up with diabetes. It’s true that canned food is also lighter, if your cat will eat it. Mine is picky and won’t.

Most cats LOVE chasing a laser. Just don’t shine it at their eyes. Try that.
