My male cat had a sex change, has yours?

He kept getting crystals, meaning over $1,000 every year for the Vet visit. His Vet suggested that he have a sex change to stop the problem, remove his male parts and give him a Vagina. Since the sex change, no more crystals and the yearly $1,000+ painful Vet expense. The only problem, my cat got REALLY FAT! But very cute!

You can tell people your cat had a “PU” — perianal urethrostomy. You will sound much cooler.

You are a great cat owner just knowing you agreed to do what was best for your cat it doesn’t matter what sex it is now.
best wishes to you and your heathy happy cat!

I can’t imagine what a formerly male cat is going to do with a vagina. He’ll never go into heat and that’s what’s necessary for the mating to occur. If a male isn’t attracted, it just doesn’t happen. When a cat gets FUS, usually the simple act of neutering the cat will save his life and prevent future problems. The male cat can be castrated and that should take care of that.

Cats don’t think of “mating” the way humans do, so I think your vet has a bit of strudel in his noodle if he thought this was the thing to do. Of course, it fattened his banking account, though. I think you’ve been had.

Put your kitty on “lite” food because fat isn’t healthy in cats either.

Ok, you’re REALLY confusing things here, they did NOT give him a vagina! Please!

What they did was take the urethra which is very long and thin in a male cat, take off the end part and move the cut end forward to a new postion because it won’t stretch once it’s cut. They sew a new opening for it and the cat pees like a female now because the urethra is shorter, which also makes it wider at that area, and less able to clog with crystals.

The operation has NOTHING to do with sex parts, it’s with the urinary system only. My cat had the same operation and it was about $1,200, but it fixed his problem and he lived, with 1/4 kidney function, for another 9 years.

Removing the ‘male parts’ means your cat got neutered, it’s not part of the urinary system.
