What is the life span for a fat cat?

I have had a fat cat for about 7-8 years. We had to get cat food that has more fat in it for my other cat, and my fat cat eats it like crazy. Will he live much longer for being unhealthy?

Do an experiment by adopting 2 cats and letting one get fat and the other maintain a healthy weight. Which one lives longer? I personally think that fat cats live longer

Unfortunatly a fat cat or dog for that matter will not live a full life. Your cat may be around for about 2more years. It really depends on how overweight your cat is, even though it may only be over weight by 2pounds that like 40pound for a human and it will cause strain to your cats heart. She/he may get heart disease because of the weight. I would seperate the cats while they feed, put your fat cat in your bedroom and have it eat and put the food away when the cats are done eating or are not interested in eating. You need to take control of this or you may find your cat no longer alive. I would hate to see that happen. Good luck, and you may want to see your vet so she can give you a weightloss cat food for your cat, You may see your fat cat a healthy weight and live to be 15yrs old.

    cat training problems

Your cat is more prone to othert illnesses. I also do not understand what you mean that you had to get cat food with ‘more’ fat in it, For what? Both cats need to eat the same thing. If you want them healthy you will NOT feed dry foods

Nutrition since there are so many bad things out there is very important to your cat’s health
Contrary to what you may have heard; dry foods are not a great thing to feed a cat.
Please read the label on what you are feeding? What are the ingredients? Do you know what they mean? Is the first ingrdiant a muscle meat like chicken or meal or other things?
Dry foods are the number 1 cause of diabetes in cats as well as being a huge contributing factor to kidney disease, obesity, crystals, u.t.i’s and a host of other problems. Food allergies are very common when feeding dry foods. Rashes, scabs behind the tail and on the chin are all symptoms
The problems associated with Dry food is that they are loaded with grains and carbohydrates which many cats (carnivores) cannot process. Also, Most of the moisture a cat needs is suppose to be in the food but in
Dry, 95% of it is zapped out of dry foods in the processing. Another thing, most use horrible ingredients and don’t use a muscle meat as the primary ingredient and use vegetable based protein versus animal. Not good for an animal that has to eat meat to survive.
You want to pick a canned food w/o gravy (gravy=carbs) that uses a muscle meat as the first ingredient and doesn’t have corn at least in the first 3 ingredients if at all. The best food for cats does not contain any grains at all.
Fancy feast is a middle grade food with 9lives, friskies whiskas lower grade canned and wellness and merrick upper grade human quality foods. I would rather feed a middle grade canned food then the top of the line dry food.
Also, dry food is not proven to be better for teeth. Does a hard pretzel clean your teeth or do pieces of it get stuck?

    Please read about cat nutrition.

Vetinarian diets The reason your vet thinks so highly of the pet food they sell probably has more to do with money than nutrition. In vet school, the only classes offered on nutrition usually last a few weeks, and are taught by representatives from the pet food companies. Vet students may also receive free food for their own dogs and cats at home. They could get an Iams notebook, a Purina purse and some free pizza.

it depends how much overwieght he is. its unhealthy for cats to be overweight. one of my cats is and were trying not to feed him as much. if ur cat keeps eating more and more and getting bigger its unhealthy. it can casue heart problems.

Fat cats are prone to diabeties, which if not treated can send the cat into a diabetic coma, and eventually lead to death. If you treat the diabeties, even if you are able to control it, complications can arise, such as kidney failure. Please try to help avoid this by helping your cat lose weight. Start with portion control. Cats really don’t need more than 5-6 ounces of food per day. Play with the cat, get new toys, invest in a cat tree. Play at least 20 minutes per day.

Be informed, read all you can, the internet is a great free guide, where you can get tips and suggestions for help.

Every cat is different just like people. It is like however that your cat will develop various illnesses that will shorten his/her life. Healthy Cats are living upwars of 22 years these days. I would seriously consider changing the food. If you absolutly cannot separate the two cats at feeding time (neither can I so I understand but you should try) Then talk with your Vet maybe there is a food inbetween. You don’t want to help one cat while hurting the other it doesn’t make sense.

I have a really FAT cat. He’s a Maine Coon & they CAN get up to 20 pounds without being labeled FAT, but this one got up to 28 pounds & is now 25 pounds. He is 15 years old. It’s clear that his joints are weaker than other cats his age, but he’s healthy otherwise. I can not imagine him dying and am so scared. Maybe he could have lived 20 if he was slender. WHo knowS? Get your cat slimmer as soon as you can. Wet food, preferably grain free & lots of play time.
