Why are congress members allowed more than two terms but the president can serve but two?

I really love AMERICA asked:
This I know was done after FDR, but if we could limit the terms of congress too, we may get rid of fat cats like Ted Kennedy who has been there for decades.

Hey, I’m right there with you.
I’m not even going to be an ass about it…..I think that they should be restricted to two consecutive terms in office. If the people want them back that badly, they’ll vote him in after someone else is in office.

Checks and balances. The president has acquired more power, so it was deemed necessary to put term limits on the position. The idea of congressional term limits has come up in the past, but as congress has to approve it, and what congress-person is going to limit their own terms, it is unlikely to ever pass.
Personally, I oppose presidential term limits also. The president is no longer beholden to the public if they cn not seek re election, and the public does not have the ability to withdraw them from office.

Two words…. GEORGE BUSH… and if that isn’t enough reason for a 2 term limit, I don’t know what IS.
