Why is the GOP so *concerned* about blowing another $700B when they’ve sunk us so far into a $10T debt?

Sky asked:

I find it a bit hypocritical that the Republican Party is SQUEAMISH about supporting another tax-payer funded bail out of the fat cats from Wall Street–when (for the last 8 years)–they did NOTHING but rubberstamp every spending measure Bush wanted: From the wars in the Middle East to the tax cuts for the rich.

What’s another $700B between crooks?

    EXCELLENT QUESTION! Vote Obama!

    i think its the other way around…..numbnuts

    Democrats did this
    * The combination of the “big three” entitlements – Medicare and Social Security and Medicaid – will double from the current 8 percent of GDP to 15 percent when today’s newborn graduates from college, to nearly 20 percent of GDP when today’s college graduate reaches retirement in 2050.
    * The unfunded federal future obligations of the federal government are now the equivalent of a mortgage of over $50 trillion ($38.8 trillion of which is due to Medicare and Social Security). This translates into a financial burden of $170,000 for each American.
    * Without reform of entitlements, balancing the budget would mean driving up taxes to European level within a generation at the risk of European economic stagnation.

    You actually believe Obama’s hogwash that McCain is the same as Bush, but if you thoght for yourself, you’d see how the two are very different from eachother.

    McCain/Palin 2008

    I agree, what is the big deal, just another trillion.

  8. wwsracing Says:

    It is about socializing the financial systems.
    They are supporting options that do not do that like insuring the bad debt without taking ownership of it.

    Have you read the bailout-
    It declares all financial institutions agents of the government,
    That is not capitalism, that is Corporatism (in the 40’s it was called Fascism)

    (3) designating financial institutions as financial agents of the Government, and they shall perform all such reasonable duties related to this Act as financial agents of the Government as may be required of them;

    That’s my question. We’ve borrowed $700 Billion every year Bush has been president (on average) to pay for his tax cuts to the wealthy but now everyone thinks $700 Billion is too much money to talk about.

    Don’t get me wrong, I know $700 Billion is a lot. But why are Republicans so ready to hand it out to the wealthiest people in America but so against shoring up Main street?

  10. Diva-Ish Says:

    For many years the President and his Administration have not only warned of the systemic consequences of financial turmoil at a housing government-sponsored enterprise (GSE) but also put forward thoughtful plans to reduce the risk that either Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac would encounter such difficulties. President Bush publicly called for GSE reform 17 times in 2008 alone before Congress acted. Unfortunately, these warnings went unheeded, as the President’s repeated attempts to reform the supervision of these entities were thwarted by the legislative maneuvering of those who emphatically denied there were problems.

    Read the link for more details… so was it really the republicans? And do you not realize that Obama’s top advisors are also from Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac? Or that Obama received the 2nd most contributions from FM2 even though he is a JUNIOR senator?

  11. LabRat Says:

    In fairness, some of the GOP would at least like to consider themselves constitutionalists. And at the core is a different breed then the neo-cons.

    Which at least gives me some hope.

  12. Linda (McCain / Palin 08) Says:

    Um is that why in 2005 McCain wanted to take care of this and was ignored. Get your facts straight there honey. Also the millions Obama recieved from the Fanny mae deal. He also backed for these Piolet programs to give money to people who could never pay it back. And lets not forget the democratic congress and Senate, Talk about your HYPOCRITE, And another thing there was no deal set the damn media is the only one who thought there was a deal

  13. darrin b Says:

    It’s just another political stunt.

    For the first 6 years of Bush’s administration, the Republican-controlled Congress gave Bush a blank check and backed him on whatever he wanted to do.

    Now all of a sudden they’re concerned about the taxpayers when Bush gave the richest Americans tax cuts?

  14. jf2mad Says:

    Deva-Ish…

    Dear girl> you are attempting to inform a liberl with (and I can hardly say the word) FACTS! Gasp!

    Surely you know that liberals are as incapable of learning facts as they are of having real convictions or speaking truth. All liberals are capable of is waiting for handouts, parroting party rhetoric and pointing fingers at anyone who isnt them.

    P.S. You left out Barney Franks who today has shrilled that lack of oversight caused by Republicans has led us to this mess, when in actuality John McCain sponsored legislation to increase oversight of Fannie and Freddie, but was shot down by Barney Franks and his open-pocket cronies the Democrats. Franks gave a speech saying that there were too many people saying the sky is falling and the democrats voted unanimously against more regulation.

    Democrats=LIARS
